Breathwork/Pranayama

Breathwork/pranayama is the conscious use of breath, with self-observation and pranayama exercises for the purpose of personal development and healing. By working with the breath we re-experience the trauma of the first breath and realize the imprint of this trauma on our lives. Breathing can work more profoundly therapeutically when it is done in conjunction with cognitive therapy to mentally understand the trauma and the consequent influences on the client’s life. Working with breathing puts the body in the process of classical psychotherapy more actively, while in the practice of yoga it puts the mind and awareness more actively.
